Thomas Martin is not only considered a legendary double bass soloist. Beyond that, he has been passionately devoted to double bass throughout his entire life, whether playing, studying, teaching, researching and even restoring and creating double basses with his own hands, as he is also a renowned luthier.

In his interview for Bass Magazine, he tells us, among many other things, how he started taking lessons from master luthier Andrew Dipper in London, and how he has since developed his workshop in Oxfordshire (UK) to become what it is today: Thomas & George Martin Violin Makers, with his son joining the business.

Over the past 40 years, with his own workshop, luthier Thomas Martin has helped many double bass players — many of them members of leading orchestras around the world — to certify and value their instruments and bows, as well as repair them.

Of course, at luthier Thomas & George Martin Violin Makers, they also restore antique instruments in detail, to later offer them for sale; and, of course, they make their own double basses, which combine aesthetic beauty and sound quality, having already sold more than 160 under their own brand.

But the best thing to do is to take a look at their website, where you will find much more valuable information about them: https://thomasmartin.co.uk.
