New Edition of the Pablo Casals International Award for Young Cellists

The Pau Casals Foundation has announced the new call for the Pablo Casals International Award for Young Cellists 2022, which aims to help young cellists in their education in order to perfect their technique and develop their artistry through training with teachers. Since its creation in 1984, the Pablo Casals International Award has become a great opportunity for young cellists.

The award is open to young cellists from all over the world and offers

  • a first prize of €18,000,
  • a special AENA prize of €12,000, and
  • a third prize of €6,000.

In addition, the Pau Casals Foundation will offer artistic promotion and professional advice to the winners.

The award has two juries of international prestige: one will select up to a maximum of eight finalists from the videos presented in the application of the call, and the other will choose the winners of the three Award prizes after viewing the qualifying videos and attending the final audition.

The members of the jury for the selection of the finalists are cellists Jérôme Pernoo, Peter Thiemann and Erica Wise, and the musical advisor of the Pau Casals Foundation, Bernard Meillat. The jury for the final audition is made up by cellists Henri Demarquette, Marie Hallynck, Asier Polo and Julian Steckel, and Bernard Meillat — music advisor to the Pau Casals Foundation and secretary of the jury.

The final hearing and verdict of the jury of the Pablo Casals International Award will take place at the Municipal School of Music Pau Casals at Vendrell (Tarragona, Spain) on Friday, 18 November 2022.

The deadline for registration and submission of nominations is 17 May 2022 at 00.00 (CET), and we encourage all young cellists to participate!
